Alexis Sanchez has arrived in Chile where he will spend the final fortnight of his holidays before returning to Arsenal for pre-season training.
The 28-year-old is back in his hometown of Tocopilla where he’s visiting family and friends while also overseeing a youth football tournament which will take place over the weekend.
Sanchez is expected to answer questions from local media at the ‘Playing for a dream’ tournament as speculation over his future continues, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger revealing that he has had ‘positive’ signs from the Chilean over recent text messages exchanged between the two.
“Of course. There is not a lot to resolve at the moment with the player,” said Wenger on Arsenal's pre-season tour of Australia.
“I have spoken through text and it was very positive. My thoughts are always positive.”
Goal understands that Manchester City remains the favoured destination of Alexis this summer as he enters into the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract, but the Gunners are maintaining the stance that their star man is not for sale and will not be allowed to leave this summer.
Sanchez has already claimed that he was “clear” in his mind about what he would do but did not reveal his decision. The former Barcelona man, along with other players involved in summer football tournaments, has been told to report back at London Colney on July 30.
Alexis arrived at Andrés Sabella Gálvez International Airport on Friday just days after meeting the mother-in-law of his Chilean actress girlfriend Mayte Rodríguez.
He also attended the birthday party of a niece before dining at his favourite haunt Restaurant La Normita where around 50 fans mobbed the Arsenal star on arrival.
Sanchez’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, was among those pictured with the Chilean talisman on Friday.
