Asokwa railway redevelopment project site now for parking excavators – Yammin
National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) and a one-time Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Joseph Yammin is worried projects that could create real jobs for the Ghanaian youth in the Ashanti Region, are not being carried through as expected.
The NDC leader, has told the President Nana Addo not to continue toy with the lives of people especially the teaming youth that voted him in power.
Mr. Yammin has alleged that, the construction of rail projects in the region spearheaded by General Engineering Group, contractor for the Kaase Railway Line Project of which President Nana Addo cut sod for works in Asokwa is stalled.
“The Asokwa venue where the president cut sod for the railway redevelopment is now being used for an excavator park. That is where ‘galamseyors’ park their excavators. If you don’t have anywhere to park your excavators go there and park it. If the NPP says they are doing operations in the mining sector and you want to be safe, carry your machine and go and put it there. There is nothing going on there’
“When we raised this issue sometime back, they put out a statement that they are about to start and they even went there to evict people who lived along some of the rails and it’s still in court. There is nothing going on there”. He insisted.
“What this government does is that when Nana Addo is coming to the region, then they start doing something cosmetics, so that the people forget about their anger, immediately they leave, they put a hold on all projects”, he claimed
Asokwa-Kaase Railway Line Project stretches from Takoradi on a single lane through to the Greater Kumasi where the lines become double so as to take load and also ferry people to and fro.
It is hoped that the Asokwa -Kaase will benefit enormously from this project as it will boost the community’s commercial business and trade viability.
The Kumasi-Obuasi rail project formed part of other standard gauge rail lines being constructed across the country by the government since it took over power in 2017.
The project involves the construction of a six-kilometer line between Adum and Kaase, estimated to cost $48 million and expected to be completed within 12 months.
The sod cutting event took place on 1st October 2020, by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
