Komla Dumor Award 2023: Joy FM’s Paa Kwesi Schandorf confirms BBC goofed

Journalist with The Multimedia Group Derrick Schandorf Ayirebi-Acquah( known widely as Paa Kwesi Schandorf) has confirmed that the BBC had congratulated him on winning the 2023 Komla Dumor Award and asked that he submit his details, which he did.

However, to his surprise, Paa Kwesi Asare of the Media General Group was later publicly announced as the winner.

Paa Kwesi revealed that when he contacted the BBC upon the public announcement of Paa Kwesi Schandorf as the winner, the BBC cross-checked and told him that his congratulatory was sent to him mistakenly and that the actual winner was Paa Kwesi Asare as announced.

“Indeed, mistakes do happen and as such I wholly accept the BBC’s explanation,” he said in a release on the controversial matter.

Paa Kwesi Schandorf used the opportunity to express his heartfelt congratulations to Paa Kwesi Asare, whom he described as his big brother.

Social media had been awash with claims that the BBC has mistakenly awarded the Komla Dumor Award to Paa Kwesi Asare. But Paa Kwesi Schandorf has confirmed that the BBC said they merely mistakenly congratulated him ( Paa Kwesi Schandorf).
