    Only a bewitched President will think of completing National Cathedral Project – Arthur K

    US-based leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy says only a bewitched President will want to continue the National Cathedral Project.

    He holds the view that the National Cathedral project characterized by a series of controversies will not be continued by any other president after Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has left office.

    “The National Cathedral will never be complete. No President who isn’t bewitched would continue this project,” he said while speaking at Accra-based TV3.

    Arthur Kennedy, who was speaking on the recent resignation of some leading members of the Board of Trustees for the project indicated that it will be imperative for these members of the board to mobilize and ask for accountability.

    “They shouldn’t just wash their hands, they should mobilize for accountability,” he said.

    Background

    The resignation of two prominent clergymen in the Country from the National Cathedral Board of Trustees has sent shockwaves down the spines of those who are already ardent critics of the project.

    Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-William and Reverend Eastwood Anaba tendered their resignation on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, citing two major reasons.

    MyNewsGh.com highlights their reason below;

    In January 2023 as Trustees of the Board of Trustees, we submitted a draft Resolution to the said Board resolving that current activities, advancing the construction of Ghana’s National Cathedral be deferred until the findings of an audit. This deferment included a cessation of activities of the Board of Trustees. Specifically, our Resolution stated, “In the spirit and cause of transparency and accountability to the Ghanaian people, the current Board of Trustees of The National Cathedral shall appoint an independent accounting firm to audit all public funds contributed to The National Cathedral. This appointment of an auditor shall take place before the deferment of the activities of the Board of Trustees.”

    Despite our prayers, best hopes and wishes, unfortunately, a needed audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this consequential project has not been enacted to the best of our knowledge. Since January 2023, we awaited news to no avail.
