Anti-Gay Bill: Troublesome Akufo-Addo always complicates things – Jantuah

Former General Secretary for the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah, is of the view that the President of Ghana is troublesome.

She says the president always wants to make easy things complicated.

Her comment comes on the back of the President’s refusal to assent to the anti-gay bill and his letter to the Clerk of Parliament warning that the bill should not be transmitted to his office.

She said while speaking on Accra-based TV3 that “The President is just troublesome, he is troublesome. He also wants to create…I mean, simple things; he makes them complicated. If nobody is telling him, I’m telling him. Instead of us telling him he is wrong, you find his own people defending him.

What he did was totally wrong and what Right Honourable Bagbin is saying is true. What is this? How can you write such a letter to Parliament? There are three arms of government. They are supposed to be independent of each other but they work together as a team. Write do you write that letter?

As the constitution puts it, you just have to write a few lines when you receive the bill and say because it is in court you want to know the verdict before you assent to it. The President knows Bagbin too won’t be quiet, he will reply him. The President knows the letter won’t go free. It hurts me that people who are not part have been affected. The President knows that he should not have written that letter. This show of mettle and power is not the right thing to do,” she said.
