Ghana's U-12 Rugby Team Wins Marie Kore International Tournament

Ghana’s Under-12 Rugby Football Union team has made history, emerging champions at the prestigious Marie Kore International Tournament held at the Technical High School in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The thrilling competition featured top young talents from Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Togo, and Ghana.

Aimed at developing and promoting rugby among children across West Africa, the tournament gave the young Ghanaian side the perfect platform to shine—and shine they did.

The Ghanaian squad dominated Day 1, winning all three of their matches and setting the pace for a strong tournament campaign. Despite losing two matches on Day 2, their impressive points tally secured them a place in the finals against hosts Ivory Coast, who had topped their group.

The final clash was nothing short of electric. Both teams showed grit, determination, and raw talent, but it was Ghana who edged out the hosts in a hard fought 10–5 victory, sealing the trophy in style.

Beyond the bragging rights, this win marks a major milestone for youth rugby in Ghana, especially under the newly elected leadership of the Ghana Rugby Football Union. It also signals a bright future for the sport in the country.

The Marie Kore International Tournament was supported by the Ivorian Rugby Football Union, Africa Rugby, World Rugby, and the Ministry of Sports and Living Environment in Ivory Coast.

The triumphant team has since returned home to a hero’s welcome, received warmly by the President of Ghana Rugby Football Union, Miss Rafatu Inusah, who praised the team’s resilience, brilliance, composure, and unwavering commitment in hoisting the flag of Ghana high.

“This is a proud moment for Ghana Rugby. These young ones have shown the continent what Ghana is capable of. The future is indeed bright,” she remarked.
