With Aduana Stars emerging as the champions of the just ended campaign, the vice president of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie believes the just ended 2016/17 season was very competitive.
The just ended season was widely criticized and slammed by many football enthusiasts on the country’s football governing body [GFA] are running the league.
George, who have been tipped to replace Kwesi Nyantakyi however admitted that the just ended campaign was very competitive but they also encountered some challenges.
“We had a very competitive season and if you look from start of the season, it has been competitive throughout.
“I agree that there were some challenges and there is no doubt about that because you cannot have a full season without challenges but I think we have all witnessed an exciting season.
“Aduana Stars were able to build on last year’s performance because they came close of winning the league. They were able to retain their players and brought in some players and they were very consistent and that helped them to win the league.
The respected football administrator also disclosed that his outfit is working tirelessly to secure sponsorship for the Ghana Premier League.
“We need to accept that getting a headline sponsor for the GPL has been very difficult for some time now. As an FA we are not just saying it is difficult to attract sponsorship so we will sit idle and see what the future holds for us.
“What we are doing is that we have tasked the sponsorship and marketing committee to go out and convince some bodies to sponsor our league.” He added.
