DPSI School Celebrates Global Farmers

DPSI celebrates farmers

THE DELHI Public School International (DPSI), Tema, has organized ‘Udear’, a religious dance of India for the first time in Ghana and on the African continent, in tribute to farmers across the globe.

More than 10,000 dancers from five countries across the world, reportedly, simultaneously performed the Udear on December 31, 2017.

Udear is a 12-minute non-stop religious dance which has an ancient root dating back to over a thousand years in India and is held annually to recognize and appreciate farmers for their enormous contributions to the growth and development of humanity.

The celebration at DPSI, which had a total of 64 dancers from the Indian community in Ghana, happens to be the first of its kind in Africa, and the sponsors, Sai Saara's Natyalaya, Tema, is hopeful it will be extended to other countries across the continent.

Each of the 64 dancers at DPSI, made up of young girls and boys as well as adults, were awarded certificates of participation by the School's authorities after the dance which comes with playing and singing of traditional Indian songs.

Director of DPSI and business mogul, Mukesh Thakwani, speaking to the media on the sidelines of the dance ceremony which took place at DPSI's Tema-based campus on Sunday, expressed delight at the hosting of such an event in Ghana.

"It's a wonderful event," Mr Thakwani said, adding that "this is another way of saying a big thank you to farmers."

He urged the need for farmers around the world to be recognized and honoured, saying “we sometimes forget to appreciate our farmers.”

The Director was of the view that the institution of national farmers' day in Ghana was highly commendable.

In attendance at the ceremony were Principal of DPSI, David Raj, members of the Indian Community in Ghana and their Ghanaian counterparts, among others.
