Ghanaians will ignore Mahama - Tema MCE
The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Yohane Amarh Ashitey, has dismissed calls for the government to prepare a stint operation towards the immediate arrest and detention of former President John Mahama in the immediate aftermath of the 2024 elections.
In a statement posted on social media, the MCE said concerns that Mr. John Mahama will push the country to the brink of chaos with a repeat of baseless claims that he has won the election are not too necessary because the good people of Ghana will not take him seriously.
“The Ghanaian people are discerning and will never fall for another hoax from Mr. John Mahama,” the MCE wrote, adding, “the former president will be totally ignored if he tries those shenanigans again.”
The MCE’s assurance follows a call by a former executive of the NDC in the Tema East constituency branch of the party, Stephen Ashitey Adjei, alias Moshake for the government to ready a stint operation for the arrest and detention of the former president if he disputes the outcome of the 2024 elections.
According to Mr. Ashitey Adjei, alias Moshake, it is important that the government ensures that peace prevails after the 2024 elections, so that a repeat of the fatalities from the 2020 elections do not repeat.
And according to him, the country’s democracy is resilient, generally speaking, however, former President John Mahama’s tendency to claim he has won elections that he did not win is a serious possible development that the government must not countenance.
The former NDC constituency executive pointed out that Mr. John Mahama had made suchlike bogus claims in the aftermath of the 2020 elections and that this had unnecessarily fueled tensions even after it had become clear that he had lost the election by over 500,000 votes.
It was therefore suggested by Moshake that a stint operation be prepared for the arrest and detention of John Mahama in the event that he disputes the election again.
“In 2020, nobody arrested John Mahama after he had claimed that he had won 10 out of the 16 regions. Ghanaians just ignored his claims and life moved on. It is the same thing that will happen in 2024 too,” Yohane Amarh Ashitey wrote.
According to him, Ghanaians will ignore any such shenanigans by Mr. Mahama because they know his penchant to make suchlike false claims.
“We will go into the 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia will win and Ghanaians will be so busy jubilating that nobody will have the time to listen to any spurious claims by Mr. John Mahama, look at the way the youth are participating in the limited registration exercise in order to retain the NPP government because of free education, go and see how the youth are openly praising the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government at the EC’s registration centres!” Yohane Amarh Ashitey wrote.
