Evergreen Teqqers Make History at Maiden Teqball Club Championship
The Evergreen Teqqers of Accra have etched their names in history as the first champions of the National Teqball Club Championship, hosted by the Teqball Federation of Ghana (TFG) at the Accra Sports Stadium on July 12, 2025.
Organized to spotlight club-level competition and grow the sport nationwide, the event marked a significant milestone in the evolution of teqball in Ghana.
“Teqball is a game for the youth, so we want to widen our reach across the country,” said Mr. Mac Quarshie, Secretary General of TFG.
Evergreen Teqqers showcased their dominance in the doubles category, defeating Keta Sandcity Teq Club in straight sets, with Casford Teqball Club finishing third.
In the singles competition, Joel Afari Arthur claimed victory over Sylvester Nortey, while Michael Owusu of Casford secured third place.
The event saw strong support from the sporting community, including the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who emphasized the need for equal support for all sporting disciplines.
He commended the TFG's efforts, encouraged the athletes to remain disciplined and consistent, and contributed ₵500 to support the championship.
Mr. Hubert Leo Mensah, along with the TFG Executive Committee, expressed gratitude to Hon. Kwadwo Baah of the Normalization Committee for his ongoing leadership and to FITEQ for recognizing the championship. TFG also announced Ghana’s bid to host the West Africa Teqball Championship in October, and plans for a teqball demonstration at the National Para Games in November 2025.
As teqball continues to gain momentum globally, Ghana is positioning itself as a rising hub for the sport.
With its non-contact format, gender-equitable competitions, and room for growth, teqball offers a promising new pathway for athletes looking to pursue professional sporting careers.
