Young Ghanaian Shutters Rule Africa with 5 Gold Medals
Ghana soared to the top of the medal table at the 2025 All-African U-15 Badminton Championships, clinching five gold medals and a silver out of six contested events on the final day of competition at the ultra-modern Borteyman Sports Complex.
Dubbed the Ghana Grand Slam 2025, the week-long championship drew top young talents from Namibia, Gambia, Mauritius, South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and hosts Ghana.
Rising star Obampo Adu-Mintah was the standout performer, bagging four gold medals in a dazzling multi-event display. On the girls’ side, Moslena Ama Adu Koramah, Ghana’s U-15 national champion, showed remarkable form by securing three golds and a silver.
Adu Koramah Mintah stunned South Africa’s Aiden Dednam in the boys' singles final, winning 2-0 in just 23 minutes.
She later returned to the court to defeat Algeria’s Chiraz Halimi 2-1 in a thrilling girls' singles finale to extend Ghana’s gold tally.
Team Ghana wrapped up the championship in style, winning the team relay, boys' doubles, and mixed doubles finals, with a dominant victory over South Africa.
President of the Ghana Badminton Federation, Evans Yeboah, commended the team’s exceptional performance and urged them to continue striving for excellence in future competitions.
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, who graced the closing ceremony as special guest, lauded the young7 athletes and revealed plans to grow badminton and other disciplines through the forthcoming Sports Fund Initiative.
Medals and prizes were presented to winners, with silver and bronze medalists also recognized for their efforts.
