Rugby Rising Play Ghana Inspires Over 250 Girls in Volta Region Outreach

The Volta Region Rugby Association (VRRA), with support from the Ghana Rugby Football Union, has successfully carried out a powerful girls’ empowerment outreach under the Rugby Rising Play Ghana initiative, impacting more than 250 female students at Ola Senior High School in Ho.

Held on March 27, 2025, the programme combined health education with sports development, using rugby as a platform to promote confidence, discipline, teamwork, and informed decision-making among young girls in the region.

A major highlight of the event was an insightful session delivered by Anthonio Dorothy Yayra, who addressed critical issues surrounding menstrual health and teenage pregnancy prevention.

Her presentation encouraged students to make responsible life choices, equipping them with knowledge essential for their personal development and well-being.

The outreach also introduced participants to the game of rugby, with an engaging practical session led by Anita Atieku.

The hands-on experience allowed the students to actively participate in the sport, sparking enthusiasm and growing interest in rugby among the young girls.

Organisers say the initiative reflects a broader commitment to leveraging sport as a tool for social change.

Through strong collaboration between the VRRA, GRFU, school authorities, and other stakeholders, the programme delivered a well-rounded experience that blended education, empowerment, and physical activity.

The success of the Rugby Rising Play Ghana outreach in the Volta Region reinforces the growing role of rugby in youth development, particularly in empowering girls to break barriers and pursue opportunities both on and off the field.
